What "Factory-Authorized" Actually Means for You
Not every repair shop is authorized, and the difference matters. Factory-authorized means the manufacturer has trained and certified us to service their equipment, that we use genuine OEM parts, and that our work keeps your warranty intact. A general repair shop can't guarantee any of that — and the wrong repair can void the coverage on an expensive tool. When you send a tool to Backtrack, it comes back to spec, under warranty, and ready for the field.
Manufacturers We're Authorized to Service
Backtrack is a factory-authorized sales and service centre for the leading railway tool manufacturers. For each of the brands below, we are authorized for sales, warranty repair, and full service — all under one roof:
ROBEL
Battery, gas, and electric-powered track construction and maintenance tools
Stanley Hydraulic Tools
Spike drivers, drills, and power packs
WVCO Railroad Solutions
FastPatch, SpikeFast, and on-track tie-plugging systems
STIHL
Battery and gas-powered tools, accessories, and chargers
Husqvarna
Power cutting and outdoor equipment
ROMEAS
Precision measuring and gauging tools — which we also calibrate in-house
Backtrack
Our own exclusive railway products
These are the brands we're best known for — but not the whole list. We're authorized to service other manufacturers too; contact Backtrack to confirm coverage for your specific equipment.
The Full Range of Services We Offer
Our shops handle the full range of railway tool service — across every tool type you run: gas, hydraulic, high-frequency, and lithium-battery.
Turnaround
Repair times vary with the scope of work, parts availability, and current shop workload — but when the queue is normal, most repairs are completed within one to two weeks. On a deadline? Tell us up front and we'll give you a realistic timeline.
Getting Your Tool to Us
Whatever's easiest — ship it in, drop it off at any location, use our mobile service, or we can arrange pickup. And you don't have to have bought the tool from us; we service equipment no matter where it came from.
Parts and Sourcing
We repair what we can source parts for — and when new parts are hard to find, we draw on a deep inventory of obsolete and legacy tool parts. If your tool is older or out of production, talk to us before you write it off; we can often keep equipment running long after the manufacturer has moved on.
Why Buy and Service in Canada, Not Across the Border
For a Canadian railway operation, importing tools from the US carries costs that never show up on the sticker price. And when a tool needs service, the real difference is speed. Railway crews can't wait on cross-border delays, and no roadmaster wants to jump through the hoops of shipping a tool back to the US and getting it returned. We service what we sell — so the tool you bought here gets fixed here, fast.
Full Service at Every Location
Every one of our five Canadian locations is a full-service sales and repair centre — not a sales counter that sends repairs elsewhere. Bring a tool to any Backtrack location and it's serviced right there. Backtrack has been family-owned and operated since 1996 — three decades supplying and servicing the tools behind Canadian track work, trusted by Class 1 railroads, shortlines, and railway contractors across the country.

Common Questions
Is Backtrack authorized to do warranty repairs?
Yes. We're a factory-authorized service centre for the major railway tool manufacturers we carry — including ROBEL, Stanley, WVCO, STIHL, Husqvarna, and ROMEAS, among others — and our warranty repairs use genuine OEM parts. Contact us to confirm warranty coverage for your specific equipment.
Will having my tool repaired at Backtrack affect my manufacturer warranty?
No. Because we're an authorized service centre using genuine parts, our repairs keep your manufacturer warranty intact — unlike a non-authorized shop, where the wrong repair can void coverage.
Do I have to have bought my tool from Backtrack to get it serviced?
No. We service tools no matter where you bought them — from us, from another supplier, or imported from the US. Bring it in, and if we can source the parts, we can repair it.
What kinds of tools do you service?
Gas, hydraulic, high-frequency, and lithium-battery tools. We handle repairs, rebuilds, preventative maintenance, calibration, and parts & accessories.
Can you repair older or discontinued tools?
Often, yes. We repair any tool we can source parts for, and we keep a strong inventory of obsolete and legacy parts for exactly the cases where new parts are no longer available. If your equipment is out of production, check with us first — it may be more serviceable than you think.
How long does a repair take?
Most repairs are completed within one to two weeks, depending on the scope of work, parts availability, and current shop workload. If you're on a deadline, tell us and we'll give you a realistic timeline up front.
Do I have to ship my tool in, or can I drop it off?
Whatever works for you: ship it in, drop it off at any location, use our mobile service, or we can arrange pickup.
Why service my tool in Canada instead of sending it back to the US?
Speed and simplicity. Servicing in Canada means no cross-border freight, no customs paperwork, and no waiting on border delays — you pay in CAD and get your tool back faster.
Which of your locations can service my tool?
All of them. Every Backtrack location is a full-service repair centre.
